Friday the 12th October 2012 is World Arthritis Day. This is an initiative supported and managed by EULAR, the European League Against Rheumatism. The aim is to:
- To raise awareness of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs) amongst the medical community, people with RMDs and the general public.
- To influence public policy by making decision-makers aware of the burden of RMDs and the steps which can be taken to ease it.
- To ensure all people with RMDs and their caregivers are aware of the vast support network available to them.
Waving for World Arthritis Day.
The campaign is called Waving for World Arthritis Day. It invites everyone to raise their hands in support of people with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases. They hope that you and your friends and colleagues will be part of the “bigger picture”. You can do this by sending a photograph or video of people waving their support for World Arthritis Day at www.worldarhtritisday.org/waving.
For most people waving is a small physical activity, it can be a painful and difficult task for those with an RMD. It is the ideal way of demonstrating your support for the campaign: so give it a go please. Don’t forget to tell your friends, family and wider social networks about the campaign and get them to send their pictures too. The target is 100,000 people waving.
